Allergy & Asthma Consultants of Montana (AACMT) is dedicated to providing diagnosis, prevention and treatment of allergies and asthma for patients in Southwestern Montana. Appointments are available in Bozeman and Butte, Montana.

Mission Statement

Our Mission is to work with our patients to help them achieve a normal lifestyle through high quality, evidence-based treatment of allergies and asthma. We treat each patient as a partner and make patient education a central component of medical care. We are unique in that we involve a certified asthma educator in your care. Every asthma patient of a certain severity is given a one hour asthma education session. Sensitivity and discretion are used in handling all of our patients' concerns.

History

The practice was started in 2001 when Dr. Alan Wanderer moved from Denver, Colorado where he practiced for twenty-six years. Since then, AACMT has been recognized as the premiere allergy, asthma and clinical immunology referral center for all of Southwestern Montana. Dr. Michael C. DiCello joined our practice in July of 2009, adding another Board Certified allergy, asthma, and clinical immunologist to our staff.

What are allergies?

One of the marvels of the human body is that it can defend itself against harmful invaders such as viruses or bacteria. But sometimes the defenses are too aggressive, and harmless substances such as food, drugs or pollen are mistakenly identified as dangerous. These triggers are called "allergens." The immune system then rallies a defensive response, launching a host of complex chemicals to attack and destroy the supposed enemy. In the process, some unpleasant and, in extreme cases, life-threatening symptoms may be experienced by the allergy-prone individual. These allergic reactions may occur anywhere in the body, but usually happen in the skin, eyes, lining of the stomach, nose, sinuses, throat and lungs - places where the immune system normally fights off invaders that are inhaled, swallowed or come in contact with the skin.
